Company Profile

Established in February 1995, BYD Company Limited is a Hong Kong listed company with private enterprise background (SEHK: 1211). It is a key high-tech enterprise in China specializing in IT, automobile and new energy, with integrated research, development, manufacturing and sales. By the end of 2009, the company’s total assets approached RMB40.7 billion with its net assets surpassing RMB16.6 billion.

 

BYD’s employees and industrial parks have increased drastically during the BYD's rapid development. BYD has developed from 20 employees in 1995 to a corporation with more than 150,000 employees and 10 industrial parks across China in 2009, including sites in Guangdong, Beijing, Shaanxi, Shanghai, and Changsha, totaling nearly 16,000,000 sq. m. It also has offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other regions.

On January 22, 2003, BYD purchased Xi’an Tsinchuan Auto Co., Ltd. (now BYD Auto Co., Ltd.) and officially entered the auto industry. As a rapidly growing and innovative auto company, BYD’s auto products and services include fuel and electric vehicles as well as auto molding and auto parts manufacturing. Its selection of vehicles include traditional high quality fuel vehicles F3, F3R, F6, F0, G3, hardtop convertible S8, and dual mode electric vehicles F3DM. Central Research Institute: BYD Central Research Lab, the corporate research center, is founded in April, 2005. Electronics Research Institute: Established in September 2007, BYD Electronics Research Institute (EI) focuses on telecommunication and electronics research in IT and automotive fields. With its research achievements, EI succeeds in supporting the company’s strategic decision makings, assisting in product development, and taking part in product design and project management. At the same time, EI provides professional trainings to company personnel and shares its exceptional technical and management talents with related fields of the company.

 

Electric Power Research Institute: BYD Energy Power Research Institute (EPRI) was founded in 2008 with more than 200 highly professionalized researchers and engineering specialists. BYD EPRI closely follows the global renewable energy demand and is committed to deliver green, high-efficiency and high-safety renewable energy and energy storage solutions for international or domestic utility operators, governments or business entities. BYD EPRI has also established partnership relations with global power energy research institutes to boost further developments with joint efforts.

Auto Engineering Research Institute: Auto engineering research department was established in 2003. It’s main charges in whole car design and development; Spare Parts design and development; whole car & Spare Parts Testing, etc. . Auto engineering research department is very important in auto division. The design and research of the current car project is undertaking. There are nearly 5000 experts. More than 80% is graduated or more over. In it, advance engineer, director engineer, advance director engineer, deputy unit engineer, and chief engineer take a 25% proportion. It succeeds in F3\F3R\F6\F0\F6DM\S8 development. And now, it gets the ability to develop three to five new vehicles each year. The design capability and development instrument is in the first line of China.

Corporate Responsibility

While being dedicated to constructing an enterprise with international competitiveness, BYD constantly cares about social progress and contribute to charitable causes as part of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. BYD pays close attention to and actively takes part in various public efforts such as disaster relief, donation to education, contributions to social welfare, and support of culture and sports. Examples of BYD’s strong sense of love and social responsibility can be seen in its generous contributions to local education, efforts to fight SARS, donations to the Southeast Asian Tsunami, donations to the South China Flood, and the Sichuan Wenchuan Earthquake relief and rescue efforts. BYD is very clear about the social responsibilities that companies need to assume, and seeks to lead by example - BYD has been constantly recognized by the general public for its efforts to improve the world we live in.

 

Since its establishment, BYD sought every opportunity to contribute to education. BYD has extensively contributed to the improvement of local education by donating to the Central Primary School of Longgang Town, Kuichong Central Primary School, Zuoquan Primary School, Shenzhen Middle School, and others.

In 2007, under the direction and leadership of President Wang Chuanfu, BYD decided to spend RMB80 million in establishing the BYD Children Welfare Institution, and organized a special team in charge of the project. The BYD Children Welfare Institution adheres to motto of “doing everything to take care of all aspects of the children’s lives” and the principle of “love others as you love yourself while serving the society”. The establishment of the BYD Children Welfare Institution is an excellent example of BYD’s attitude and determination towards social welfare. It reflects BYD’s honorable corporate culture and spirit, and demonstrates President Wang’s noble personal quality and character.

 

In 2008, after the destructive Sichuan Wenchuan earthquake, the company paid close attention to the situation and peoples’ living conditions in the disaster-hit areas. BYD’s initial step was to donate RMB100 million and immediately dismount 1000 hoisting jacks from new cars—which were quickly delivered by air through the army—to be used to save as many lives as possible at the rescue sites. Later, President Wang Chuanfu led the top team of the company to personally donate RMB 3 million to help rebuild schools destroyed in the disaster. The company also organized donation activities many times among its staff and arranged to comfort staff affected by the disaster, helping them overcoming difficulties and reconstructing homes. The company compassionately admitted 5 students from the disaster-afflicted areas into its Shenzhen BYD Middle School. In addition, via contacts obtained during the relief effort, BYD also arranged for over 40 graduates to work in the company. Emerging from the earthquake, BYD’s selfless contribution to the relief effort received praise and appreciation from all sectors of society.

 

In November, 2009, BYD set up scholarship in Zhongnan University, with an amount of RMB 620,000 per year and a total amount of RMB 12,400,000 in 20 years. Zhongnan University BYD Scholarship includes Excellent Student Scholarship and Excellent Teacher Scholarship. 100 students, including 60 undergraduates, 30 masters and 10 doctors, can receive the Excellent Student Scholarship, an amount of RMB 5000. The Excellent Teacher Scholarship is awarded to 10 teachers.
